Trip to DC (Part 2)

If you haven't figured it out yet, we are foodies around here.  Definition of a foodie?  A person keenly interested in food, especially in eating or cooking, according to dictionary.com.  So yes, this would describe us.  We like to try new foods, whether in our own kitchen or at a restaurant.  So if a foodie gets to visit a big city, then he/she is in for a treat...since you can try pretty much any type of food you'd like to.  We had lots of DC food suggestions from friends and some places we had before and were a "must" for a return visit.  All in all, I don't believe we were disappointed at any place we ate.  So this last DC post is dedicated to the delicious cuisine we enjoyed.  Disclaimer: I am pretty sure with all of the walking and sweating (heat index was over 100 degrees every day) that we already worked off every calorie we took in. :)

Sandwiches in Cincy

We took a day trip to Cincinnati last week and went to one of our favorite sandwich places there, Terry's Turf Club.  This casual diner is well-known for it's yummy burgers and outrageous amount of neon signage.  This was the first time we took Jude, and although it isn't the most kid-friendly restaurant (no high chairs) he still loved it.  We went in between lunch and dinner time and the place was surprisingly pretty quiet.  I ordered a chicken sandwich and Matt went with a burger.  Both of us enjoyed our meals and Jude loved snacking off of our plates.

Please note: If you get a chance to visit Terry's, beware of the prices of adding toppings and sides.  It can get pretty expensive quickly.

A Taste of Italy...Deli Style

If you start talking favorite places to eat, I am not one of those people that have one or two...I have a list.  However, if I had to narrow down my list...DiSalvo's Deli would definitely be in my "top 5".  I mean, this is the place that I ask Matt to take me every birthday.  I'd prefer this little store front deli to any fancy restaurant.  Why?  Well, let's see, they have mastered "sandwich perfection", everything is fresh, the workers are personable, and the dessert, OH, the dessert!  I do happen to have a favorite dessert...tiramisu, and they have the best of the best!!!

This weekend we went to DiSalvo's Deli.  Matt and I got our usual...him-chicken parmesan sub and me-Italian sub.  Jude, as always, helped us out with the eating part.  Then, we ordered a slice of tiramisu and a cannoli to go and took them to The Greene to eat outside.  We tried to get Jude to run through the fountains while at The Greene, but he was a little apprehensive about it.  He thought they were pretty cool though, seeing as he stood right beside them for 1/2 an hour and had to be coaxed to leave. :)

A Diamond in the Rough

So this past Saturday night we decided to wander out to one of our favorite places to eat, Matera Caffe.  Upon the arrival of a baby last September, it quickly became clear that we should not venture too far away from home for dinner.  We began seeking out closer restaurants.  This little place is about 10 minutes from home and it is yumm-o! Why didn't we try it sooner???  Well, let's just say...the location is not the most appealing (a not so nice kind of night club is beside it).  Anyways, back to the food, oh, the food.  From the wood fired pizza to the sandwiches to the ribs to the coffee to the...you get the idea.  Well, here is how this weekend outing went.

The Americano is a must try if you visit Matera.  One of the best chicken sandwiches I have ever had!  Seriously!
