September = Back-to-School

Yep, it's that time of year again...back-to-school time, that is.  Matt has actually been in his classroom for three weeks now and I started teaching this past Tuesday.  We feel very blessed to work in a field that we both love and enjoy.  And guuuuys, I have to add that it is so nice having a spouse that is in the same line of work.  When we have our evening discussions about how our day was, we can completely empathize and have some understanding of where we each are coming from....and that is just too good sometimes.  Matt is still in the 7th grade classroom this year, although he did move to a new room.  I have went back to teaching in 2nd grade and THAT makes me super happy.  2nd grade just rocks.  I look forward to making an impact on these kiddos this year.  All in all, getting back to teaching is not that bad, but I can't say that I am ever excited to see summer come to an end though.  Leaving my Jude just doesn't get any easier...even knowing that he perfectly good hands with his grandma.   It does make coming home each day so much sweeter.  :)

A Glimpse Into My Classroom

Many of you readers may not be teachers, so you may not understand the combined excitement and stress that comes in preparing a classroom for a new school year.  Just imagine remodeling a room in your house every August...it's a lot like that, except you would have to make room for 20-24 people in the room.  Like I mentioned in this post, I have taken a new position as the K-3 music teacher this year.  So it has been crazy wrapping my mind around teaching a whole different area of content.  I decided in preparing my classroom this year that I would not go out and purchase a ton of music decorations.  I mean, have you ever looked at the prices at teacher stores?!?!  As for a theme, I just stuck with what I had a lot of decor for already...apples.  Starting next Tuesday, this is where I will spend all of my time...pouring a lot of information & inspiration into a lot of little brains.  We hosted an Open House this past Tuesday evening, and just seeing the eager faces of past and future students has me excited to get this year rolling.  So here it is, my 2013-14 music classroom.  On a side note, I wish I could take pictures of all the classrooms in our elementary building.  They are something amazing!!!  The amount of time and energy my co-workers put into their rooms makes me very proud of the team I work with. :)

 Here's to wishing you a happy, long weekend! :)

Back-To-School and Such

Matt has been back to teaching since last week and I've been back to working on my classroom for the past 3 weeks.  It's hard to believe our summer break is over and it's this time again!  We love our jobs, nevertheless it is always difficult to say goodbye to summer.  I have had a big task in school prep this year, because I took a new position and a new classroom.  I will be the K-3rd music teacher (which you probably already figured out if you follow me on Pinterest...I'm afraid I'm a pinaholic).  I go from being super excited about teaching music to being extremely nervous.  Jude has been my "helper" as I organize, clean, decorate, shop, etc.  Today after working for 3 hours, I took him outside to play on the school playground.  Most of the equipment was too big for him, but he's been looking so big lately I was secretly kinda glad. ;)

 ^^^Thrilled about being my assistant...can't you tell?!?! ;)

 ^^^Slacking on the job.

 ^^^When you realize you are up really high and not sure how to get down.

Classroom Visitor

My little man was able to come to our school costume parade and party last week.  It was definitely a treat for this momma and teacher.  I loved introducing Jude to my students and boy, did he love all of the attention he received!  Special thanks to my mom-in-law for dropping him off for this fun event.

Yep, This Really Happened

Our school has a McTeacher Night every year for a fundraiser.  The idea is if the teachers volunteer to work at McDonald's the students will come and eat there.  A portion of the proceeds that are made in that evening go toward our school.  Good idea, good cause, right!?  I missed it last year since I was on maternity leave still, but all of the memories of previous McTeacher nights came flooding back to me as I was thrown right into the trenches last night.  I signed up to work at the McCafe.  I arrived for my one hour long duty. The training...less than two minutes long.  And then there I was a glorified McFlurry and McFrappe producer.  Let me tell you, the fast-food business...not as easy as it looks.  The best part of the night was, of course, seeing my current and former students getting a kick out of seeing me working at McDonald's.  The worst part was smelling like french fries for the rest of the evening. ;)
How I hoped to look as I was working,

How I REALLY looked.  Confused, maybe? ;)

Football Frenzy

Around this time of year football becomes the game to watch, play, or pretend to play {all of you fantasy players know what I'm talking 'bout ;)}.  We took Jude to his first live football game the other day.  No, it wasn't a pro, a college, or even a high school game.  We went to a jr. high game.  Matt's 7th graders had a kind-of-big-deal game, so out we went to support the students and cheer them on.  We had a great time...minus the chilly weather.  The students loved seeing Jude!  And of course, Jude and I loved meeting them and hearing their praise of "Mr. Wilson's class".
